As mentioned many times on this site, framing a picture can help protect it from the ravages of time & the environment. This is one of the most important reasons people want to get things framed.
Many people store their pictures in cardboard tubes or folders, in cheap photo albums or under the bed. All these places can have detrimental effects on the life expectancy of a picture.
